LIVING BENEATH YOUR WORTH

ARE YOU LIVING BENEATH YOUR WORTH?
WHAT DO YOU COMPARE YOUR WORTH TO?

I’m such a loser! I’m a fat, stupid, ugly, klutzy, unlovable geek. I can’t do anything right. I’m no good to anybody. I’m just plain worthless!”

Too often we hear parents call children “stupid” or “dummy.” Hear enough times a person — child or adult — will believe it! If a person believes it he’ll stop trying to learn and live down to the label attached to him.

Aging adults feel worthless as bodies and abilities slow down. Many times I had witnessed my beloved father in law who use to keep up like a teenager, once his health prevented him from doing so, would feel lost, frustrated and often would say I’m no good for nothin’ . The pain of not being able to do for his family like he always did night or day slowly ate away at his joy. If only he knew our love for him was not based on what he could do, but we just dearly loved him and his worth in God’s eyes was more precious than gold.

Or a mother who’s sole purpose was to be a mother and take care of her family and her identity became lost in that, until one day the home became an empty nest and she felt alone and questioned her worth now that she felt no longer needed.

So many times we lose our own sense of worth or identity when we try to exhaustingly be what every one else thinks we should be and label us.
Growing up in my house it was just my brother and me and I am so thankful for the relationship and closeness we have. As I little kid though as far back as I can remember.. my brother was the outgoing baseball jock and was labeled and known for his manly attributes and abilities, while I was more of a girlie-girl and loner, but I loved fashion and got into modeling. So of course, I was the model, not aww she is so nice or smart, etc. So I constantly tried to keep up that image of staying pretty and thin and when I had begun struggling with my weight and issues, I felt a deep sorrow of pain and unworthiness because I failed and let everyone down. Now what? What was I supposed to be ?

Without knowing we get labels put on us whether from our parents, family, children, husband or wife and we feel less than, not keeping up that image.

SO MANY TIMES YOU HEAR WE ARE OUR OWN WORST CRITICS. WE ARE CONSTANTLY BEING TOLD OUR WORTH BY WHAT THE MAGAZINES PORTRAY, THE NEWSPAPERS, TV, MOVIES, WHICH FOR SOME OF US IS AN ONGOING FRUSTRATING AND EXHAUSTING BATTLE. IF YOU MAKE SO MUCH MONEY, WHAT IS YOUR NET WORTH, WHAT DO YOU OWN ? BELIEVE ME WE HAVE ALL DONE IT. I STILL BATTLE WITH IT AT TIMES AND THEN I HAVE TO READJUST MY THINKING AND SEE IT THROUGH GOD’S EYES. HAVE TO SHUT OUT ALL THE VOICES FROM THE MEDIA AND FOCUS ON WHAT OUR TRUE WORTH IS.

We are too concerned about what the world thinks.
There is a much better judge.
Be concerned about what God thinks of us and how we fit into his scheme of things

Psalm 139:13-16
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Luke 12:6-7
Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them
Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

God desires to have a loving and genuine father and son/daughter relationship with us. Not a father and son/daughter relationship that many today have come to know, but a loving, caring, and wonderful relationship. Many times, when a person has an abusive relationship with their earthly father, they tend to perceive their relationship with their heavenly Father the same way. That causes a lot of people to have an unhealthy fear of God, which drives them away instead of closer to Him. This is exactly what the devil wants us to do, and it grieves the heart of God. Our heavenly Father is the most loving and caring Father that anybody could ever ask for!
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
