I am sure some or most of us remember the cell phone commercial…
“Can U Hear Me Now”
Today I wanted to talk about hearing the Lord’s voice specifically.. I myself have times when I really have to ask myself…is this God?
Are you hearing voices in your head?
What voices are you listening to?
Noises and voices in a busy, fast-paced, loud, world at times
Everyday we are bombarded by voices from tv, the news, magazines, radio, social media , the classroom and the workplace . If we are not careful, we can allow them to overtake us it can silence out the Lord’s voice.
Are we hearing and absorbing all the negative words out there or are we feeding on the words of Life while feeding on His Word.
The Bible is our blueprint for life and so we can recognize the voice of a stranger. Most every parent tells their children to avoid talking to a stranger. Satan is the stranger to Truth and his voice is very different from God’s. Jesus reminds His disciples that His sheep “know His voice” (John 10).
and the sheep follow Him, for they know His voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers
There are different voices that we can hear whispering to us all day long. .– the voice of God, the voice of our own fleshly desires, and the voice of the Devil.
Clues to it is not of God
Any thing that is attacking the truth of God’s Word or being twisted or mocked or doesn’t line up.
Words of condemnation. Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.. Romans 8:1 Even though everything the accuser has said about us is true. Satan will continue to try over and over to point out our sins and read our mile long rap sheet and remind us of our past , but then Jesus shows the scars on His hands and reminds us that all those sins were paid in full – on the cross – for those who trust in Him. “not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His great mercy.” (Titus 3:5) When Satan reminds us of our past, we need to remind him of his future!!!
Don’t let his accusatory words into your head. Though his accusations about us may be true, they are also spoken in the past tense. Those words may have been true about us last year, last month or even yesterday. But today is a new day. Want a word from God? Open His book and read. It is your sword!! And His words are powerful!!!!. As Jesus showed during His temptation, it is the ONLY way to protect ourselves from the accusing voice of the serpent.
When We Know It Is Of The Lord
When I hear my hubby’s voice, I know it’s him. When my little dog hears my voice, her ears go up and are in tune.. That’s because my voice is familiar to her and she knows it’s her mommy.
Isaiah 28:23 – Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say.
Isaiah 30:21 – Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.
The More Time We Spend In Relationship With Him As We Do With Those Who Are Closest To Us
That’s how God wants to be with us..to know His voice distinctively. He wants to hang out with us and spend alone time with us. He wants to have an active, vital, 2- sided relationship with us. Talking, sharing, listening to each other. You can’t have a good relationship if one person is doing all the talking. He wants to talk with us and us with Him.
.
God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to take our place and to die for us. He did this so that we could once again have fellowship with Him. We now can be in God’s very presence, “…having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way…” (Hebrews 10:19-20a).
In Genesis 3:8a, “…they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…” This is how God wants to relate to us today as well. It is God’s desire to walk with and to communicate with us..
But as a child of God we don’t have to walk blind. We can have confidence that we will hear His voice. Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Conversely, this scripture implies that if we are God’s children, if we are born-again, we will be led by His Spirit.
The most difficult part of hearing God is the fact that it takes time to learn to discern God’s voice — and it takes a humble heart. Jeremiah 29:12-13 “Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
We can’t make our own self will demands on God. But we can ask, seek, and knock, and the Bible promises that God will open the door. God will reveal Himself to those who humbly seek Him.
The More Time Spent With Him Our Thoughts Will Line Up With His Word
In Proverbs it describes the way that our thoughts and intentions line up with God’s will when we submit ourselves fully to the Lord. “Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed” (Proverbs 16:3 ).
The Lord manifests Himself to us and through us as we humbly seek Him.”Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
So how can we know whether we’re hearing the voice of God?
When doing some research found these 7 keys that can answer some of our doubts that we may have:
1. Scripture: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (II Timothy 3:16-17).
2. The Holy Spirit speaking to our heart: “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen, and everyone his brother, saying, ‘know the Lord,’ for all will know Me, from the least to the greatest of them” (Hebrews 8:10-11).
3. The Prophetic (word of knowledge, word of wisdom, personal prophecy): “Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good” (I Thessalonians 5:19-21).
4. Godly counsel: “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14 ) Be very careful who we run to for advice.
5. Confirmation: “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed” (Matthew 18:16).
6. The peace of God: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful” (Colossians 3:15).Sometimes you will just be overwhelmed by a sense of Peace. Even though something on the outside looks great, it may not be of God. Just because it is Good doesn’t mean it’s God! If it’s not God’s perfect will for you. Peace will at times be your only barometer.
7. Circumstances/Timing: “After these things he (Paul) left Athens and went to Corinth. And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, having recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. He came to them, and because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and they were working; for by trade they were tent-makers” (Acts 18:1-3 — this relationship between Paul, Aquila and Priscilla — which happened as a result of circumstances — became one of the most important strategic partnerships in the book of Acts).
Many times the Lord will confirm His direction to us through three, four or more of these keys — especially when we are in the process of making an important, life-changing decision.
A lot of times the Lord will line up people or situations in your life to help with the answer. It’s amazing how what we think is a coincidence, it is not, but merely the Lord strategically setting us up for a blessing or a new direction, or a new door He is getting ready to open.
Well hopefully this may have helped someone who is also hearing voices and struggling with direction…If only for myself. this helps remind me to seek Him more diligently…
Love y’all and will be in agreement with you, for the answers you may be seeking for yourself from the Lord..
As always never want to forget and give you a chance to personally meet the One that has all the answers You are seeking… Before I was saved and didn’t know any better.. would look to horoscopes, or someone who could give me a sign… but I want to introduce You to the One who Has all the answers and knows the very hairs on your head and knows the perfect plan for your life and what you were always seeking and destined to be! His name is Jesus… I will leave you this short little prayer for you and encourage you to never lose sight of Him in the midst of all the voices, and noise that this world throws at us daily.
In His Love,
