“WHAT’S IN YOUR TREASURE CHEST?”

One day as I was sitting contemplating on things, the Lord showed me a treasure chest, like a child had and stored all his prized possessions and little trinkets that he/she thought were of great value. I remember as a little girl how I had a little jewelry box that I kept a cool ring, or a picture, some coins, or things I would find in my yard that I dug up and thought it was a secret treasure.

As we grow up, we may have things we consider treasures or of high value. It may be something from our childhood, a collectible, a letter or note, a picture of someone, or maybe as parents something our child made for us that are so precious to us.

For some it may be something even bigger, like a new house, a new car we have saved for, a trophy, or that degree that got us the job we always dreamed of…..

I know as we grow older it’s those things that we thought were important don’t seem that much more important anymore.. Times we spent with loved ones that have passed are more precious to me everyday especially when you just can’t drop by for a visit or call them on the phone. Even our health is so precious, when we don’t have it like we used to.

All of this got me thinking about what the Lord holds precious and what He considers to be treasures… earthly treasures vs eternal treasures. What is more important in His eyes of storing up and gaining earthly treasures, vs storing up eternal treasures……

Treasuring What God Treasures

Now having things and blessings are not evil, it is the love of money that is the root of evil.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows 1TIM 6:10.

Having more resources can help bless others and do a lot of good for God’s purposes. It’s not having the planes, or the big house that is bad..it’s THAT plane that gets us to people faster to help and minister to, or THAT HOUSE that has so many rooms to be able to help people with a place to stay and take rest.

It’s when we allow those things to take control or become our idols and forget the fact as to WHO  gave it to us and blessed us with it . Or lose sight along the way as to the temporary riches vs those that last through eternity.

2 COR 4:7    But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;

MATTHEW  6:19   Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

MATTHEW  6:21   for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

PROVERBS 11:4    Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death

1 TIMOTHY 6:17   Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.

We always have to remember not to allow those earthly treasures to outweigh or have more importance than our eternal treasures that will never get old or tarnish or fade.

Many Christians dread the thought of leaving this world. Why? Because so many have stored up their treasures on earth, not in heaven. Each day brings us closer to death. If your treasures are on earth, that means each day brings you closer to losing your treasures .Randy Alcorn

EZEKIAL 28 4-5  “By your wisdom and understanding You have acquired riches for yourself And have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries. “By your great wisdom, by your trade You have increased your riches And your heart is lifted up because of your riches–

ISAIAH 2:7-8  Their land has also been filled with silver and gold And there is no end to their treasures; Their land has also been filled with horses And there is no end to their chariots. Their land has also been filled with idols; They worship the work of their hands, That which their fingers have made.

PROVERBS 11:28  He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.

In Christ is hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge

COL. 2: 2-3  that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge

PROVERBS 2:4  If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures;(WISDOM)

MATT. 13: 44-46 The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

COL. 2:3  in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

As we value what God values, we grow to long for more of Him and to be more like Him. Increasingly, we love people and use things, rather than loving things and using people. Where is your treasure?

The way you store up treasure in heaven is by investing in getting people there.

True Treasure

In His Love,

As always, I want to leave a little simple prayer with you. If you know of Jesus, but have never made Him the Lord of your life and allowed Him to be the BEST treasure you will ever find. I encourage you to allow Him to be all that you need or ever will. Or perhaps you are tired of seeking peace in all the things of this world and all it has to offer to find your joy but just end up empty , allow Him to fill that void you are so desperately trying to fill.
